An introduction to creative production in collaborative environments. It introduces students to recent practices and discourses that are relevant to socially-engaged or community-based art practice. This is in line with the realization that art or creative practice can encourage innovation, nurture a healthy working environment, and foster a socially responsive ethic.

The course is a study of theoretical discourses which shaped the contemporary mode of reception and practice of art. The course places emphasis on art theory from the point of view of art production. By doing so, it engages the imagination of students by encouraging them to think and reflect on their creative practice as a form of inquiry or research.

This course seeks to introduce to product design students various organic materials, its characterization and manipulation to create marketable products such as home decors, housewares, gifts, toys, accessories, etc. guided by the design thinking process.

Art periods and movements from ancient to modern art

The course seeks to introduce to product design students the historical overview of design, the fundamental principles in designing objects as marketable products, and the basic structure of the design process. The students will be introduced to the process of creating design briefs and product design specification (PDS) as guide to product research and development. 

The course seeks to:

Introduce students to the various fields of graphic design practices and their inherent practical and theoretical  strategies;

Allow students to work on projects that would immerse them in the technical aspects of graphic design technologies;

Respond effectively to design problems in user-centered visual communication

The course seeks to introduce theories and methodologies of design within the context of social innovation. It aims to train and develop the necessary skillset to research and focus on complex human issues, using the design process to bring about social change. The workshop handles practical real-world cases that can be tackled with design research, brainstorming, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

The course seeks to introduce to product design students the historical overview of design and its movements, the fundamental principles in designing objects as marketable products, and the basic structure of the design process: empathizing with users, defining design problems, ideating for solutions, prototyping the concept, testing the product and launching to the market. 

Combination and manipulation of various materials (organic, synthetic, metals) design and fabrication of lighting and home accessories as objects in a space

Utilizing technology in translating traditional methods of illustration and painting into a digital medium.
